Avera Marshall announces March Spirit of Excellence Award Winner
Sheila Tykwinski, account collection coordinator, has been chosen to receive the "Spirit of Excellence" Award for March 2010 from Avera Marshall. Each month the award is given to an employee who demonstrates the medical center's values of compassion, hospitality and stewardship. Tykwinski has worked at Avera Marshall since September 1995.
Korver receives advertising awards
Kristi Korver, a 2003 Marshall High School graduate, was recently recognized for several of her advertising works at the 44th annual South Dakota Advertising Awards. She was awarded 2009 student "Best of Class" in three of five categories: 1) Sales Promotion 2) Non-Traditional Advertising and 3) Elements of Advertising. Korver also received the Juror's Award, three gold awards and one silver ADDY award.
Korver graduated from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design with a bachelor's of fine arts in photography and completed her graphic design education at South Dakota State University in Brookings. She is employed by Caliber Creative of Brandon, S.D.
Energy forum April 22 in Russell
Lyon-Lincoln Electric Cooperative will be the host of its second annual Energy Forum from 4-7 p.m. April 22, Earth Day, at the Russell Community Center. Vendor booths from many area contractors will be set up to
help consumers become more energy efficient in their homes. Speakers will be on hand to present information how to build or remodel your home to be more energy efficient. Lyon-Lincoln Electric will cover a variety of topics from Energy Audits to Energy Star Rebates. Western Community Action also will be on hand to provide information on its programs and services.
UCare to have informational meeting April 27
UCare is having informational meetings about its UCare for Seniors Medicare Advantage plan. Members of UCare's sales staff will discuss the UCare for Seniors Classic, Value, and Value Plus plans.
UCare for Seniors has more than 70,000 members across Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

Communication, customer service seminar April 16
A seminar, "Effective Communication & Customer Service - Management 2010" will be from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday, April 16, at Jackpot Junction Convention Center in Morton.
Robin Getman will be the keynote speaker. Getman is co-founder of InterACT Group, Quality Service Specialists and has presented seminars on training, motivation, customer service and quality leadership to hospitality, health care, arts, government and academic industries all over North America. She is manager of three restaurants in Minneapolis - Tejas, Leeann Chin and Figlio.
Getman will talk about customer service excellence, communicating for results and defusing difficult people and situations. She will also explore the power of active listening and practice communication techniques designed to help enhance communication with customers, build trust and rapport and create transformational service moments.
The cost is $89, which includes a light breakfast, lunch and refreshments.
