Wyffels celebrates 50 years as priest

The Rev. Robert J. Wyffels will celebrate his 50th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood at 10:30 a.m. May 16 at the Church of St. Michael in Morgan. The Rev. John M. LeVoir will be the main celebratrant and homilist. Following mass, Wyffels will share highlights of his ministry. A meal will be served immediately after mass.

Wyffels is the son of Peter Wyffels and Irma VanOverbeke. He was born on a farm near Cottonwood and baptized in Green Valley. He attended St. Joseph's Academy in Marshall for eight years and Marshall High School. His formation for the priesthood continued at the minor seminary at St. John's University in Collegeville, and he pursued philosophy and theology at the St. Paul Seminary. He was ordained Feb. 21, 1960, at the Church of St. Mary in Sleepy Eye. His first mass was celebrated at the Church of Holy Redeemer in Marshall. He was named Chaplain to His Holiness with the title of Monsignor in 2005.

St. Peter's spring fling May 15 in Canby

The annual St. Peter's Spring Fling! is Saturday, May 15, starting with a burger feed from 5:30-7:30 p.m. in Canby. The dance with DJ Bill is from 7:30-11 p.m. Among the activities will be kids games, "famous faces" sponge toss, raffle and silent auction. In addition, the Rev. Craig Timmerman will sumo wrestle. The cost is $6 for the meal, 5 and younger $3, maximum $25 per family. The dance is a free will offering.

National Day of Prayer May 6

The National Day of Prayer is observed Thursday throughout the United States. In Marshall, the faith community can gather to pray for the nation at noon at the Lyon County Government Center (courthouse) flagpole or at 7 p.m. at the YMCA in Marshall. The public is welcome.

Holy Redeemer CCW salad luncheon May 6

The Council of Catholic Women of Holy Redeemer Parish in Marshall is having its annual salad luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 6 at Carlin Hall in the basement of Holy Redeemer Church.
