Redwood River Sportsman's Club to have youth trap league

May 4, 2010
Marshall Independent

In an effort to get more youth involved in shooting sports, the Redwood River Sportsman's Club will soon be starting a youth trap league.

The league is for youth, ages 11-18 who have a valid firearm safety certificate. The teams will consist of five shooters and will be randomly drawn from all participants that sign up. It is 14 rounds of 25 birds that the kids can shoot anytime the club is open from May 16 through Sept. 8.

The club is open for trap and skeet shooting on Sundays, 1-5 p.m., and Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 6-8 p.m. The only cost to the kids is $3 per round to pay for the clay pigeons. The club will donate the 12 or 20 gauge shells.

First-place teams will be awarded trophies and second-place teams will be awarded medallions. All participants will be invited to the League Awards Banquet on Sept. 19 at the club.

In addition, if a youth is interested in having a mentor work with them to improve their skills the club has a number of members who are willing to donate time to do this.

Youth would be linked up with a mentor whom they would make arrangements to shoot with when time allows.

If questions, contact Angie Trost at 507-828-3011.
