Area man accepted into graduate program at St. Cloud State

Matthew Wester, the son of Bill and Peggy Wester of Lucan, was recently accepted into the social responsibilities graduate program at St. Cloud State University, and will attend in the fall of 2010.

Wester graduated from Southwest Minnesota State University with a degree in sociology. He plans on teaching at the undergraduate level after completing his masters.

Local students participate in commencement ceremony at SJU

Four local students participated in the commencement ceremony May 9 at St. John's University in the St. John's Abbey Church, Collegeville.

Anthony Blum, the son of Mike and Louise Blum of Marshall, received a bachelor of arts degree in political science.

Cody Fruin, the son of Tim and Lori Fruin of Cottonwood, received a bachelor of arts degree in management.

Kirby Johnson, the son of Paul and Lois Johnson of Marshall, received a bachelor of arts degree in biology with the honor cum laude. Cum laude indicates a grade point average of 3.65-3.74.

Jeff Vandendriessche, the son of Tom and Janet Vandendriessche of Marshall, received a bachelor of arts degree in accounting.

Local student in commencement ceremony at SJU

Kyle Louwagie, the son of Al and Deb Louwagie of Marshall, participated in the commencement ceremony at St. John's University May 9 in the St. John's Abbey Church, Collegeville. Louwagie received a bachelor of arts degree in accounting. He graduated cum laude.

Local students participate in commencement ceremony at CSB

Four area students participated in the commencement ceremony at the College of St. Benedict May 8 in the Haehn Campus Center/Clemens Field House on the CSB campus, St. Joseph.

Lindsay Baun, the daughter of Dan and Linda Baun of Marshall, received a bachelor of arts degree in mathematics with the honor magna cum laude. Magna cum laude indicates a grade point average 3.75- 3.89.

Megan Kack, the daughter of Carol and Bruce Kack of Minneota, received a bachelor of arts degree in biology.

Christine Palmer, daughter of Bill and Kathy Palmer of Marshall, received a bachelor of arts degree in physics and music.

Angela M. Tate, daughter of Jim and Mary Tate of Marshall, received a bachelor of arts degree in English and communication with the honor summa cum laude. Summa cum laude indicates a grade point average of 3.90-3.99.

MinnWest, Worthington, announces spring semester dean's list

Minnesota West Community & Technical College, Worthington Campus wishes to announce the Spring Semester 2010 Dean's List and to congratulate the following students for their outstanding academic achievement.

Students must be enrolled in at least 12 graded credits and earn a minimum 3.5 grade point average to be eligible for dean's list honors. Spring 2010 dean's list Honors were extended to the following students from the Worthington Campus of Minnesota West: Staci Carstens, Canby; Mikkel Conover, Dawson; Christopher Bambrick, Slayton; Emily Petersen, Slayton; Raquel Bosacker, Tracy; Christine Juhnke, Vesta; Mariah Osland, Westbook; Amelia Hubin, Westbrook.

Palmer accepted into National Society of Collegiate Scholars

Katy Palmer of Marshall has accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars and will be honored in an induction convocation this fall at Loyola Marymount University.

NSCS is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is the nation's only interdisciplinary honors organization for first- and second-year college students. Membership is by invitation only and is based on grade point average and class standing. NSCS has more than 675,000 lifetime members and 250 chapters in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

Palmer is the daughter of William and Kathy Palmer of Marshall.

Minnesota West, Jackson, announces graduates

The annual commencement for the Jackson Campus of Minnesota West Community and Technical College was May 7 at the Jackson County Central High School Auditorium.

The following students have met graduation requirements: Spencer Thorston of Canby and Nathan Janssen of Marshall.
