Crowell earns bachelor of science from St. Catherine University

Chelsea Crowell participated in St. Catherine University's spring commencement ceremony May 22 in St. Paul. Crowell was awarded a bachelor of science degree in exercise and sports science.

She is the daughter of Scott and Laura Crowell of Marshall and is a 2006 graduate of Marshall High School.

Hively, Kruk receive diplomas from Alex Tech

President Kevin Kopischke announces the following students received diplomas at Alexandria Technical College's graduation ceremony May 14 in Alexandria: Jared Hively of Balaton received a diploma in welding technology.

Christopher Kruk of Marshall received an associate in applied science degree in law enforcement.

Area student graduates from Mitchell Tech

Four hundred and eight students graduated from Mitchell Technical Institute in annual commencement exercises May 7 at the World's Only Corn Palace. Graduates from this area included: Justin Deragisch*, Marshall, power line construction and maintenance. *Denotes honors.

Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical announces graduates

The Minnesota State College-Southeast Technical, commencement ceremonies were May 12 in Winona at Winona State University, McCown Gymnasium. Graduates included Adam Madsen, from Tyler, band instrument repair, diploma.

Van Leeuwe named to St. Mary's dean's list

Amanda Van Leeuwe, the daughter of Joan and Daniel Van Leeuwe of Ghent, was named to the second semester, 2009-10 dean's list at St. Mary's University of Minnesota. The list includes undergraduate students who earned a grade point average of 3.60 or better on a 4.0 scale.

Local students on St. Cloud State dean's list for academic excellence

St. Cloud State University has announced the names of 1,445 students whose academic achievement placed them on the spring semester dean's list. To be eligible for the honor, students must have a grade point average of 3.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale.

Among them are: Balaton - Eve Bakker, Ryan Kaup; Canby - Alex Kontz, Bradley Wollum; Clarkfield - Susanna Hegna; Dawson - James Bothun, Kristin Nevins; Granite Falls - David Nedrud; Lynd - Jeffrey Demuth;

Milroy - Bo Kirsh; Minneota - Courtney Rogge; Tracy - Katie Olafson;

Wabasso - Derek Stripling.

Wendel receives scholarships

Danielle Wendel has been selected by the College of Arts and Letters Department of Theatre and Dance Scholarship Committee to receive a regents Scholarship and the Joseph Cantlin Foundation Scholarship.

Her excellent academic record and outstanding accomplishments have qualified her to receive these awards.

The total amount of the Regents Scholarship is $1,000 and the total amount of the Joseph Cantlin Foundation Scholarship is $1,000. these amounts will be split equally between the fall and spring semesters next year.

She is the daughter of Charlotte and Carl Wendel of Marshall.

Tykwinski graduates from Valley City

Jessica Tykwinski of Marshall was among the Class of 2010 graduates at Valley City State University. She received a bachelor of science degree.

Local students make Lake Area Tech honor roll

Deb Shephard, Lake Area Technical Institute president, announces the current honor roll. A minimum grade point average of 3.25 and full-time status is required of LATI honor students.

Local and area students so honored include: Jennifer Clark of Marshall, human services academic; Spencer Sheehan of Marshall, computer information systems; Shane Sweetland of Lynd, occupational therapy assistant.

Osman accepted at Gannon University

Kaltuma Osman has been accepted at Gannon University in Erie, Pa., and plans to begin classes in the fall 2010 semester as a general studies major. Osman is the daughter of Habiba Kasim and a recent graduate of Marshall High School.

Hernandez enrolled at Minnesota West

Minnesota West Community and Technical College officials announce that Carmen Hernandez plans to attend college at the Canby Campus in the fall of 2010. She is the daughter of Veronica Hernandez of Marshall. Hernandez is a graduate of Yellow Medicine East High School and has been accepted into the medical administrative secretary program on the Canby Campus of Minnesota West.

Stassen enrolled at Minnesota West

Minnesota West Community and Technical College officials announce that Christopher Stassen plans to attend college at the Canby Campus in the fall of 2010. He is the son of Gary and Michelle Stassen of Marshall. Stassen is a graduate of Marshall High School and has been accepted into the electrician program on the Canby Campus of Minnesota West.

Meyer enrolled at Minnesota West

Minnesota West Community and Technical College officials announce that Brianna Meyer plans to attend college at the Canby Campus in the fall of 2010. She is the daughter of Penny and Bill Meyer of Marshall. Meyer is a graduate of Marshall High School and has been accepted into the dental assisting program on the Canby Campus of Minnesota West.

Local students named to dean's list at Missouri State University

Keith Graven, Ashley Louwagie and Danielle Wendel, all of Marshall, were named to the dean's list for the 2010 spring semester at Missouri State University.

To be named to the dean's list, students have to be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours during the semester and earn a 3.5 grade point average.
