Schmidt receives scholarship

Archer Daniels Midland Company has partnered with the National FFA Organization to award Kirby Schmidt from Marshall with a $1,000 scholarship. Schmidt plans to attend University of Minnesota-Twin Cities this fall and major in agricultural education. He is the son of Dale and Lila Schmidt and is a member of the Marshall High School FFA chapter.

Each year the National FFA awards more than $2 million in scholarships to its members. For the fifth year, ADM has participated in the program by offering scholarships to students pursuing two to four year degrees in select agricultural fields. To be eligible for an ADM-sponsored scholarship, students must be current FFA members, exhibit strong leadership skills and be active in community service.

Almer selected to participate in AP reading

Fred Almer of Marshall Public Schools was selected to participate in the annual reading and scoring of the College Board's Advanced Placement Examinations in June in calculus.

Each year, the AP Program, which is sponsored by the College Board, gives more than 1.8 million high school students an opportunity to take college-level courses and examinations. Based on their exam performance, successful students can receive credit and/or advanced placement when they enter college.
