Area student enrolled at SJU

SeanPickthorn, son of Todd and Sherri Pickthorn of Cottonwood, has enrolled at St. John's University for the 2010-11 academic year.

On Sunday, Aug. 22, new students move in and begin orientation, which continues through Tuesday, Aug. 24. Classes for fall semester begin Wednesday, Aug. 25.

Marshall student on Winona State dean's list

Winona State University has released the dean's list for spring 2010. To be named to the dean's list, a student must be an undergraduate enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours for a grade) and achieve a minimum grade point average of 3.5. Students include Jesse Buss of Marshall.

Merritt graduates from South Central

The Vice President of Academic Affairs for South Central College, Dr. Nancy Genelin, has recently released the names of the 2010 spring semester graduates of South Central College.

Included on the list is Brook Merritt of Canby, North Mankato campus, associate of applied science degree, community social service.

Winter graduates from emergency medicine program

Andrew Winter graduated from the emergency medicine residency program at Genesys Regional Medical Center June 18 in Grand Blanc, Mich. Winter is the son of Dick and Wanda Winter of Marshall. He and his wife, Lindsay, plan to move to Golden Valley. Winter plans to practice medicine at Unity Hospital in Fridley.

Labat receives award

The following students received the Chancellor's Award for the spring 2010 semester.

The award is presented to students who have a grade point average of 3.5 or above.

Minnesota West Pipestone Campus releases spring semester 2010 dean's list

The spring semester 2010 dean's list for Minnesota West Community & Technical College-Pipestone Campus has been released.

Students must be enrolled in at least 12 credits and earn a minimum 3.5 grade point average to be eligible for dean's list honors. Dean's list honors were extended to the following area students from the Pipestone Campus of Minnesota West: Canby: Ryan Olson, heating, ventilation and air conditioning/refrigeration technology; Samantha Weidert, cosmetology. Lucan: Travis Sik: heating, ventilation and air conditioning/refrigeration technology. Marshall: Josh Brewers, heating, ventilation and air conditioning/refrigeration technology. Milroy: Andrew Thooft, heating, ventilation and air conditioning/refrigeration technology. Minneota: Samantha Kack, pre-nursing. Ruthton: Amy Baartman, liberal arts; Sonya Iverson, massage therapy. Slayton: Madeline Robinson, cosmetology. Tyler: Lindsay Jensen, administrative assistant; Ryan Sik, heating, ventilation and air conditioning/refrigeration technology. Verdi: Jamie Kuehl, heating, ventilation and air conditioning/refrigeration technology. Westbrook: Jace Jarmer, carpentry; Michael Jarmer, carpentry.

Lecy graduates from Bethany Lutheran

Abigail Lecy, the daughter of Gregory and Rebecca Lecy of Marshall, graduated with a bachelor of arts degree May 14 , majoring in psychology from Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato.

Area Augustana students participate in summer research

Augustana recently announced that 59 undergraduate students are participating in summer research projects on- and off-campus.

Marissa Kern, senior, Porter. Major: biology. Mentor/adviser: John Cisar. Funding: National Institute of Dental & Craniofacial Research. Location: National Institute of Health, Bethesda, Md.

Connor Lamberson, senior, Marshall Major: chemistry. Mentor/adviser: Vanderbilt faculty member. Funding:Vanderbilt University. Location: Vanderbilt University.

Fischer graduates from St. Scholastica

Jenna Fischer, of Tracy, graduated May 16 from The College of St. Scholastica with a bachelor of arts degree in health sciences. She plans to attend graduate school at The College of St. Scholastica for her doctorate in physical therapy.
