Blair photography show at Whipple
Southwest Minnesota State University English Professor Elizabeth Blair will give a one-person photography show Aug. 23 through Sept. 23 in the William Whipple Gallery.
Blair's show is titled, "Pollen Painting" and consists of 21 photographs taken on a newly-laid asphalt parking lot at Dodge Lodge in Itasca State Park on a rainy day last June. The asphalt is the palette and the reflections of red and white pines overlaid by pine pollen swirling from one end of the parking lot to the other are the paint.
Blair was in two juried exhibitions this past summer, at Edge Gallery in Big Fork and the Macros tie Gallery in Grant Rapids. Her photograph titled, "All That Glitters" won first prize in the two-dimensional category at the Edge Gallery show.
The photographs for her SMSU show were taken with a Nikon Coolpix camera. She also shoots with a Nikon single-lens-reflex (SLR) camera.
Blair was the 2009 winner of the Nadine Blackrock Women's Nature Photography Fellowship, which resulted in a one-month residency at Turtle House in Moose Lake.
The Whipple Gallery is located in BA 291. It is accessed through the SMSU Library, and is open during normal library hours.
Shannon Marholtz of Marshall, has been accepted for the fall 2010 semester at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall.
