No prison time for suspects in large SD drug bust

June 4, 2014
Associated Press

RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Men from Minnesota and Wisconsin caught hauling a large amount of marijuana through South Dakota will not serve any additional jail time if they stay out of trouble.

Sixty-four-year-old Dennis Krivinchuk of Superior, Wisconsin, and 66-year-old Richard Ward, of Duluth, Minnesota, have been sentenced to time already served, probation and fines.

Authorities say the men had 60 pounds of marijuana and 150 grams of hashish when a Highway Patrol trooper stopped them on Interstate 90 near Rapid City last November. They pleaded guilty to drug charges last month in a deal with prosecutors.

The Rapid City Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1i0CFVL ) that each man spent about a month in jail. Krivinchuk could faces two years in prison if he violates probation, and Ward could face five years if he gets in trouble.
