Indian cuisine demonstration at SMSU

The Culinology House and the Culinology Program at Southwest Minnesota Sate University will host the husband-and-wife pair, Dr. Vijai Gupta and his wife, Jyoti Gupta, from noon-1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2.

They'll be on campus to present an Indian cuisine food demonstration in the Culinology kitchen, located in the IL Building.

They are partners in Jyoti Natural Foods, which produces Indian entrees for Continental Airlines' service which runs from Delhi to Mumbai. They also create the vegetarian specialty meals served on other international flights.

Jyoti Gupta is a dietitian and Vijai Gupta is a chemical engineer with 24 patents under his name. He has also served as an adviser to the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and the U.S. trade representative on technical issues relating to processed foods.

Together they develop new culinary products like distinctive grains, fragrant rice, seasoned vegetables and Indian home-style cheeses.

Peterson member of Chemistry Club

Aaron Peterson, a junior biology major from Cottonwood, is the president of the Chemistry Club at Southwest Minnesota State University for the 2009-2010 academic year.

The Chemistry Club is an active organization which promotes the sciences. Students participate in activities including demonstrations, career exploration and the chemistry club magic show.

Onken member of Biology Club

Jessica Onken, a freshman from Marshall, is the president of the Biology Club at Southwest Minnesota State University for the 2009-2010 academic year.

The purpose of the Biology Club is to provide a variety of recreational, academic and co-curricular experiences for students interested in biology. Activities include field trips, an alumni banquet and cleaning up the SMSU Wildlife Management area on campus.

Brown treasurer of BSU

Elizabeth Brown of Marshall is the treasurer of the Black Student Union at Southwest Minnesota State University for the 2009-2010 academic year.

The Black Student Union facilitates the goals of a group of individuals that share similar academic, social, economic and emotional backgrounds.

Peterson member of Environmental Awareness Club

Aaron Peterson is the treasurer of the Environmental Awareness Club at Southwest Minnesota State University for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Members of the Environmental Awareness Club learn about basic environmental problems that are affecting the Earth and community and strive to make a change.

Onken member of Environmental Awareness Club

Jessica Onken, a senior biology major from Marshall, is the vice president of the Environmental Awareness Club at Southwest Minnesota State University for the 2009-2010 academic year.
