St. James to have special service Sunday

St. James Episcopal Church of Marshall will celebrate its annual community service of Lessons and Carols at 7 p.m. Sunday at the church, 101 N. 5th St. Marshall.

In past years, the annual service was the Christmas version, but this year the congregation will sing and read the historical Advent Lessons and Carols, directed by Ryan Fox, director of choral activities at Southwest Minnesota State University, and choirmaster and organist at St. James Episcopal Church.

In 1934, 16 years after the more familiar Festival of nine Lessons and Carols for Christmas Eve had been introduced to King's College, Cambridge, England, the dean, Eric Milner-White, composed a further service - a "Procession with Carols upon Advent Sunday."

First Lutheran Sunday School Christmas programs announced

The children of First Lutheran Church will present their Sunday School Christmas programs from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the church sanctuary. "The Colors of Christmas" will be given by the preschool through first graders and "365 Days of Christmas Each Year" will follow by the 2nd through 6th graders. The public is welcome.

St. Stephen to dedicate new education addition Sunday

St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Marshall invites the community to an open house from noon-2 p.m. Sunday to see its new expanded education facility. Bishop Jon Anderson of the Southwestern Minnesota Synod-ELCA will preach and dedicate the new space at the 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. worship services.
