Area Boys Basketball

Minneota 64, Lac qui Parle Valley 55

Led by the sharpshooting Brandon Anderson, Minneota won the championship of the Lac qui Parle Valley holiday tournament, defeating the host Eagles 64-55 Tuesday in Madison. Anderson hit five three-pointers, finishing with a game-high 23 points.

Shane Hennen had 13 points and five steals for the Vikings in the win. Zac Corbin hit three three-pointers and was 6-for-7 at the free-throw line, finishing with 17 points. At 5-2 overall, Minneota travels to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton on Tuesday.

LQPV (2-4) was led by Joey Schreck, who hit five shots from beyond the arc to finish with 15 points.

Dominic Dolan led four scorers in double-digits as Tracy-Milroy-Balaton came away with a 69-29 victory over host Red Rock Central on Tuesday in the Red Rock Central holiday tournament in Lamberton.

Dolan hit three three-pointers, finishing with a game-high 15 points. Shane Erickson and Jeremy Hoflock each scored 12 points, and Joe Hook added 11 for the Panthers, who will take on Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in today's tournament championship.

The Falcons were led by Daniel Maras, who dropped 10 points in the loss. RRC takes on Wabasso in the third-place game.

Russell-Tyler-Ruthton advanced to the championship game of the Red Rock Central holiday tournament after defeating Wabasso 79-56 on Tuesday in Lamberton.

With the victory, the Knights (4-2 overall) will take on Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in the championship game at 7:45 p.m. today. Wabasso (0-4) plays host Red Rock Central today at 6 p.m.

Dawson-Boyd 64, Castlewood (S.D.) 59

Nathaniel Huot scored a game-high 23 points to lead Dawson-Boyd past Castlewood (S.D.) in the Milbank Shootout Tuesday in South Dakota. The Blackjacks came back from a two-point deficit at the half to grab a 64-59 victory.

Joey Lee was the only other Blackjack to reach double figures in scoring with his 10 points.

Free-throw shooting played a big part in the game, as Dawson-Boyd went 12-of-14 from the line, while Castlewood was just 4-of-11.

Castlewood (3-2) was led by Trevor Sikkink, who scored 21 points. Jordan Feyerisen added 19 points in the loss.

Dawson-Boyd improves to 4-1 with the victory and will host Renville County West next Tuesday.

Tyler Taschner led all scorers with 14 points as Hamlin (S.D.) defeated Canby in a low-scoring win, beating the Lancers 38-25 Tuesday in the Swiftel Tournament in Brookings, S.D.

Hamlin dominated on the glass, out-rebounding Canby 39-25.

Brandon Grengs led the Lancers with 13 points. Chad Blackwelder had six points and nine rebounds in the loss.

Canby (3-3 overall) returns to Camden Conference play against Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Tuesday in Tracy.

Chanel Madson scored a game-high 23 points, and had five rebounds, four assists and five steals to lead Westbrook-Walnut Grove past Truman 66-51 on Tuesday in the first round of the Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin holiday tournament in Butterfield.

Paige Erickson and Anne Woelber each chipped in 13 points for the Chargers (3-3 overall). WWG takes on MLBO in the tournament championship game at 8 p.m. today.

Truman's Shelby Wiederhoeft scored 22 points in the loss.
