Hello Mustang fans!
It has been a week of travel for the Hmielewski Family as we visited my side of the family for the holidays in Olathe and Gardner, Kan. The roads traveling down to Kansas last Thursday were touch and go from Sioux City to Kansas City with a rain, sleet and a snowy mix the entire way with temperatures ranging from 31-35 degrees. We never did have stretches of ice, thank goodness.
We encountered much better road conditions on our return trip all the way until we hit Worthington. Worthington to Marshall was slow with stretches of ice. It was like our travel slowed down to a crawl for those last 60 miles.
We found out upon our return to Marshall on Wednesday that 34 degrees in the Kansas City area is much different than 34 degrees here in Marshall. We were in sweat shirts in Kansas and completely bundled up Wednesday night as we shoveled off the driveway. Overall, it was a very relaxing trip. We will now begin to prepare for a very busy spring semester with all our winter and spring sports in full swing. Classes at SMSU will start up again on Monday, Jan. 10. The Mustang Booster Club and SMSU athletics department have a number of events coming up in January and February:
Hawaiian Night - Saturday, January 29 at 6 p.m./8:00 p.m. (women's and men's basketball vs. Winona State)
Gold Rush Raffle - Friday, Feb. 25 at 6:00 p.m. (Social Hour)

g Congratulations to Tom McLaughlin, who provided the correct answer to last week's Mustang Hoofprints Trivia Question: What former SMSC men's golfer finished 3rd in the NIC Tournament for the Mustangs 1973? Marshall's own Tom "Crash" Ellingson was the Mustang men's golfer who placed 3rd overall for the Mustangs in the NIC Tournament.
