To the editor:

The United Way of Southwest Minnesota will soon conclude its 2010-11 annual fund-raising campaign. To those who have already given a donation, thank you. If you have not been asked to give yet, please consider this an invitation to join your neighbors in this important local effort.

United Way of Southwest Minnesota is local. 100 percent of your contribution goes to work for people living right here in Southwest Minnesota (Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Yellow Medicine and western Redwood Counties). United Way of Southwest Minnesota is accountable. Only local volunteers determine how local United Way resources are used and make sure that positive results are achieved. United Way of Southwest Minnesota has significant impact. Donations are invested into local programs focusing on education, income and health the building blocks for a good quality of life and successful communities. United Way of Southwest Minnesota is comprehensive. United Way advances the common good by working with many partners to solve complex issues that one single agency cannot do alone. United Way of Southwest Minnesota gets things done. United Way recruits people and organizations who bring the passion, expertise and resources needed to get things done.

Just look at what can be accomplished through your donation to United Way of Southwest Minnesota:

You put books into the hands of young children and build a lifelong love of literacy.

You provide nutritious food for hungry children and families who need it.

You bring back $788,000 each year into the local economy by sponsoring volunteer tax clinics.

You help youth, families and individuals adjust to loss and difficult situations.

You provide safety and security for innocent victims of violence.

You teach positive parenting skills and build stronger families.

Your gift will influence the condition of all.

The annual campaign still needs to raise $25,000 by the end of January in order to make sure that programs like these have resources to carry out their work in our area. Please join us today. You can mail a donation to Post Office Box 41, Marshall, MN 56258 or give securely online at

Thank you for helping us help others,
