Hello Mustang Fans!
Congratulations to Ken Mukomela, a longtime member of the Mustang Booster Club, who is one of three recipients of the Noel Olson Volunteer of the Year Award this year. The award is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Mukomela, along with Paul and Barb Halstenson from Augustana College, will be honored with the award during the 12th Annual NSIC Hall of Fame Banquet on July 13 at the Best Western Kelly Inn in St. Cloud. Please go to SMSUmustangs.com to see the full press release.
Today will be an exciting day for SMSU, as our interim president, Ron Wood, will be formally announced at 3 p.m. in the upper level of the student center. The session will be open to the public and campus community. I was able to spend time with President Wood last week and we had an enjoyable conversation about Mustang athletics. He shared his passion for athletics from both his personal and professional experiences. I would also like to mention, Ron and his wife were the first to register for the Mustang Golf Classic.
The Mustang Booster Club will host the 2011 Mustang Golf Classic, featuring a change in the format for this year's event. The Golf Classic will become a two-day event this year, with the traditional 18-hole, five-person scramble golf tournament on June 24 at the Marshall Golf Club. On Friday night following the golf tournament, the Mustang Booster Club will host a social at MGC open to golfers and community members, with entertainment, appetizers, beverages, a silent auction and concluding the programming with a live auction.
On June 25, the Mustang Booster Club will host a second 18-hole, five-person scramble golf tournament at the Tyler Golf Club. Both tournaments are tentatively scheduled to have a shotgun start at 11 a.m. Please save the dates on your calendar and be looking for more information in my future Hoofprints articles, as well as at SMSUMustangs.com.
