Hunger impacts ourchildren and their future

June 7, 2011

To the editor:

Hunger impacts many people, including a large population of children. Summer is especially difficult for kids, who are out of school and do not have access to free or reduced-cost lunch programs.

Overall, one in four children in America face hunger. Children make up 38 percent of the members of households served by Feeding America.

Additionally, children who suffer from poor nutrition during the brain's most formative years score much lower on tests of vocabulary, reading comprehension, arithmetic and general knowledge, according to Feeding America.

Bremer recognizes these needs and, in response, we are holding our sixth consecutive, month-long campaign in June, "Taking Action to End Hunger." This year, Bremer is matching all donations dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000. Your $1 donation, matched by Bremer, can help provide 14 meals. You can donate online at Bremer.com or at any Bremer Bank location. One hundred percent of donations collected are distributed to Feeding America regional food banks and area food shelves in Bremer communities.

By making a donation today, you will help Bremer Bank raise enough money for Feeding America to provide food and grocery products to feed many children in our neighborhoods who might otherwise go hungry. At Bremer, we are working to build healthy communities through partnerships, like this one with Feeding America. We hope you will join us by taking action to end hunger - donate now and we'll double it!
