Feat at the Fairgrounds

June 14, 2011
Marshall Independent

To the editor:

Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday to You,

Most everyone has heard this song; it is the song sang at many birthday celebrations. It has a different meaning to everyone. As a child you are excited to hear the son but as we get older the excitement fades. It just becomes a reminder that we are getting older.

This song may be a simple song but it is a very powerful song. The Happy Birthday song is the Victory song for the American Cancer Society and many cancer survivors.

Everyone is invited to the 2011 Lyon County Relay for Life Feat at the Fairgrounds.

When: June 24 running through the morning of June 24.

Date and Times: June 24 Opening Ceremony starts at 7 p.m. The Relay runs all evening ending on June 25 with the Closing Ceremony at 7 a.m., including the release of white pigeons.

Where: Lyon County Fairgrounds in Marshall.

Come to honor, support and personally participate by joining the Relay community. Together we will move closer to finding a cure for cancer. There is so much happening all night that you just have to experience it for yourself. Teams have activities going on, campsite fund-raisers and local vendors selling food. Come to see and walk the luminaria track. It is a sight to see and as the darkness sets in and candlelight shines, it will take your breath away.

Yo ask how I can help to make a difference.

You can attend the Relay on June 24. You can support the Relay by attending fund-raisers held throughout the year, buy luminaria bags, cancer fact signs, sponsor a team or become a corporate sponsor. You can start your own team; join a team that is already established. If you have questions or would like to find out more information about the Relay for Life, upcoming fund-raisers or how to start or join a team, go online to

Together we will create a world where will be able to sing Happy Birthday to all of our loved ones for many years to come. The next time you hear this victory song take the time to think how much it means to a cancer survivor. A world with less cancer is definitely a reason to celebrate.

See you at the 2011 Lyon County Relay for Life on June 24. Come and help create more birthdays.
