To the editor:
This Father's Day, the Minnesota Fathers & Families Network extends a sincere thank you to all fathers for giving your children the love and support that every child needs. You are the everyday heroes who are building a bright future for Minnesota's youth.
Over the last few years, there has been a growing emphasis on the positive impact of engaged, caring fathers. Research about a father's influence has confirmed what so many of us know to be true fathers really do make a difference. Children with dads and other father figures who actively participate in their lives perform better in school, are more self-confident, are more likely to exercise self-control, and less likely to engage in risky behaviors as teens.
In Minnesota, we are fortunate to have a growing number of community based organizations, faith-based institutions, and government agencies that are focusing on strengthening the bonds between men and kids. We laud these efforts and wish you all an active and joyful Father's Day.
