Faith in action for July 1

July 1, 2011
By the Rev. Paul Wolf , Marshall Independent

Holy Redeemer Catholic Church

Holy Redeemer Parish hopes to reopen its main worship space for service Aug. 1. A Mass of dedication and an Open House is scheduled for October 16, 2011 with Bishop John LeVoir rededicating the renovated church building. In addition an organ recital is scheduled for the afternoon of the October 16, at 3:00 pm to celebrate the installation of our new organ. All are welcome to participate in our joy. More information of events and celebrations will be announced.

The staff and officers of the Pastoral Parish Council and the Council of Catholic Women will be working on creating "circles" for the coming year. We hope to establish 12 circles. These circles will include 150 family units (families, couples and singles). Each circle will have lead couples and phone callers to organize events for the circles. In the months of September, October, November, January, and February individual circles will be called upon to join for a potluck and an enrich on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Topics may include: the church renovations and tour, Respect Life/Marian, new missal, Catholic Charities (health care) or Saints. We will also be asking the circles to become more involved in the "corporal" and "spiritual" works of the church such as visiting the nursing home or homebound, providing cakes and salads at funerals, cleaning the church, exposition, and other works of ministry.

Holy Redeemer will be partnering with the Refuge: A Fresh Start in the next couple of months to provide financial support to the homeless in the Marshall area. Other organizations, as well as individuals, will continue to be helped in particular needs.

We welcome two new associate pastors to the Area Faith Community of the Bread of Life (Holy Redeemer, Marshall; St. Clotilde, Green Valley; and St. Mary, Cottonwood): the Rev. Paul Schumacher and the Rev. Paul Timmerman. We also welcome two new ministers at Holy Redeemer: Leah DeLanghe, Campus Minister at the Campus Religion Center on the campus of SMSU, and Jeffry Stocker, youth minister and faith formation coordinator for grades 7-12.
