'Voices of courage'
As thousands prayed in response to the call for a solemn assemble in Houston, Texas last Saturday the S & P was busy downgrading the AAA rating of this nation. The timing of that prayer meeting perhaps made a lot more sense after this fact became known and the consideration for the further potential damage to our already weakened economy.
It seems the brightest of minds have no solutions to offer that can be agreed upon and any action taken. We ring our hands, murmur, complain, and try to fix the blame as if that will bring some measure of relief. What do we do? What is needed to restore confidence in America once again?
I believe what is happening does not surprise God and He is waiting to hear us cry out to Him as a people of God that has faith. We will humble ourselves, repent, and pray to ask for His help in these seemingly impossible scenarios.
And not only pray but become the voices of courage to speak the word of God boldly over our nation. Where are those voices of hope, voices of faith, and voices of courage speaking the right things, the positive things that will restore the confidence to a badly shaken nation and world?
I think of the story of Joshua as he took charge of the nation of Israel after Moses was dead. Hear what God had to say to Joshua as he assumed the leadership task of leading the people into the Promised Land and into battles with overwhelming odds.
Joshua 1:6-9 (TNIV) 6 "Be strong and courageous, because you will lead these people to inherit the land I swore to their ancestors to give them. 7 "Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go. 8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."
My thought for today is that the greatest need in the land is to hear voices of encouragement. The stock market is driven by fear and greed and all the current voices are only enhancing those emotions causing the volatile stirring fluctuating responses in the people.
The Holy Spirit is an encourager and it is up to us to speak out words that will encourage and not discourage. If we can assure the people like was done for Joshua, that God is for us, God is with us, and He will never leave us nor forsake us; I believe the tide can be turned, the turmoil will calm, and the flood waters will return back to the banks of normalcy.
I encourage you like Paul did to the Corinthian church in 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 (TNIV) 13 "Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. 14 Do everything in love."
I pray our voices would be ones of great courage and we would encourage one another so much the more as we recognize the end days we are facing. I pray we will speak the word of truth in love and bring healing to the hearts and reap a great harvest of souls in this land so lost and without hope as we try to live without knowledge and acknowledgement of Jesus Christ as our Savior and only True Hope.
May the peace of God which transcends all understanding guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
