To the editor:
A heartfelt thanks to the football coaching staff, alumni director, and Tim Steinbach for making our (Southwest Minnesota State) football reunion a great success. You all went to great lengths to make the weekend a memorable one. We appreciated that the coaching staff would take time on Saturday to eat lunch with us, that Tim would give us a personal tour, and that we were welcomed by Tyler Bowen on Saturday at the alumni tent. You made us feel like we were part of the SMSU family again.
We made several observations over the weekend: First, Southwest has a beautiful campus and one of the best small college football stadiums in the country. Second, the football staff (despite its youth) is a very professional and competent group. Third, all of the students, faculty, and staff were especially warm and welcoming to us. Last, the weekend was very well organized for us.
The game (despite the loss) was very competitive and except for a few mistakes could have been a victory. We saw a team that played hard, was poised, and played with class. We believe that Southwest football will soon achieve a level of consistent success for the first time in its history. We saw the foundation being laid by the coaches and the school.
Also, thank you to Curt and the staff at the Ramada Inn for hosting our socials.
