Become a hero

October 3, 2011
Marshall Independent

To the editor:

You may not know it, but you can easily become a hero. It could be the child who needs a safe place to learn and play before and after school. It could be the teenager trying to stay on track, or the mother fleeing domestic violence. It could be an older adult wanting to maintain a dignified, independent life.

Donors to United Way of Southwest Minnesota are local heroes to many people in this area of Southwest Minnesota. Last year, in addition to funding more than 41 programs that collectively served more than 33,500 people throughout the area, United Way of Southwest Minnesota recruited people and organizations who brought together the passion, expertise and resources to get things done.

We all win when a child succeeds in school; when families are financially stable and when people are in good health. United Way of Southwest Minnesota works with community partners to create long-lasting changes by addressing underlying causes of problems. A single act - like your donation to United Way of Southwest Minnesota - will have an enormous impact. Your gift stays right here, and when magnified by the gifts of others, it has the power to make lasting changes.

As a community hero, you have the power to change lives for the better. Change only happens if we all join together. Through United Way of Southwest Minnesota, your local United Way, you can help make a real difference in the education, income and health of the people in this area.
