MARSHALL - When Shari Hunter heard about a growing trend of non-surgical liposuction called Biogenie Body Contouring, it didn't take her long to jump into action.
Hunter's daughter, India Schmidt, had learned of the "melt-away fat" concept in Sioux Falls and immediately told her mom that the two of them needed to try it.
"My daughter was thinking that we have to physically try it, but in my brain, I knew I had to do this as a business," Hunter said. "I started researching it and saw the other end of it."

ReNew Body and Facial Contouring Spa owner Shari Hunter, pictured with her Biogenie machine that helps eliminate cellulite, recently joined a growing trend of businesses in southwest Minnesota that feature anti-aging treatments to help customers feel good on the inside as their outside appearances improve.
As a result, ReNew Body and Facial Contouring Spa, was born on Flloyd Wild Drive in Marshall.
"I liked 'ReNew' because you're renewing your body and your mind," said Hunter, who lives in Redwood Falls.
Using the proven Cellular Electro-Aesthetics Biogenie method, excess cellulite, in the form of excess fat and fluid retention, is broken up and then magnetically driven to the lymphatic system, where the body naturally and permanently releases it.
"I like the fact that it makes people feel good," Hunter said. "It helps their self-esteem. Health-wise, it's good for them when you can help people lose weight and eliminate fat cells from their body."
Hunter said the treatment also gets a jumpstart on one's metabolism. One treatment increases metabolism for 21 days.
"It's a process," she said. "It works on a daily basis. When you're done with one treatment, it'll take 4 to 5 inches off, but it continues after you're done, too. It isn't just that day. You'll continually lose inches and weight afterwards."
Hunter lost eight pounds in a month from one treatment.
"It just kept falling off," she said. "I'd get on the scale and a pound would be off. There wasn't anything I was doing differently."
ReNew Body and Facial Contouring Spa, which is located inside the Savvy Salon in Marshall, opened its doors on Aug. 15, joining a growing trend of similar businesses in the southwest Minnesota area.
Mirror Solution was opened recently in Cottonwood by Echo native Kim Sander. Kera Haugen started Silhouette Solutions Beyond a Day Spa, with locations in Redwood Falls, Windom and Spirit Lake, Iowa.
"It's been around since 1979," Hunter said. "It started in France. It's been out in California, but it's new to this area."
In doing research, Hunter said she also found one similar business in Minneapolis, Mankato and Worthington, in addition to three salons in Sioux Falls, S.D.
"It's definitely a growing trend," Hunter said. "I wanted to get in when it's new. Word of mouth will be huge."
Hunter's largest investment for her business was the purchase of the Biogenie machine, which cost more than $32,000. Hunter said the Biogenie distributor, the owner of the three salons in Sioux Falls, came to Marshall to train her.
"He's the only distributor in the United States," Hunter said. "There are also CDs to watch after you're trained. That helped a lot. I wanted to do everything right."
Customers have three choices when they call Hunter for an appointment. She offers body contouring treatments, which take an hour and a half, or facial treatments, which take two hours. The third option is to do both. Single or multiple treatments are available.
"I've had a lot of people doing facials," Hunter said. "They can really see the results. The last gal I just had in here said it was like a day spa for her. She could see the difference in just one treatment. Her co-workers noticed, too. I'm really pleased with that."
Facial treatments help improve and brighten complexions, in addition to toning the face. Body treatments can include problem areas such as the abdomen, back, thighs, upper arms, buttocks, love handles, chin and neck.
"It's not painful or uncomfortable," Hunter said. "It works really well. It's amazing."
