To the editor:
My name is Christian Sanders, a sophomore at Marshall High School. Together with my faith sponsor, I am working on my confirmation project through Holy Redeemer Church and would like to ask for your help. I became aware of a great organization called The Lamia-Afghan Foundation.
The organization was founded by Retired General John Bradley of the U.S. Air Force and got its name from a little girl in Afghanistan named Lamia who pointed at General Bradley's boots and said, through an interpreter, that she wanted a pair of boots like his since she didn't have any. He promised that he would get her some and the organization was founded.
I have been in contact with the general and his wife and asked about the need for shoes. I was told that there are a great need for many things including shoes, boots and socks since many are living in caves and stand barefoot in the snow.
This is where I am asking for your help. If you have shoes or boots that are clean and in good condition or new socks, please consider donating them to this organization. There are children and adults in Afghanistan that have never had a pair of socks or shoes on their feet. All sizes of new socks/shoes or clean, good-conditioned shoes or boots are welcomed but the greatest need is for children's shoes and boots.
The drop off sites are at County Fair and Hy-Vee by the customer service desks. The box will be there through November.
Thank you very much for sharing with those who have none.
