North Star promotes Carlson

North Star Mutual Insurance of Cottonwood recently announced the promotion of Tom Carlson to field claims supervisor for the Property/Casualty Claims Department.

Carlson began employment with North Star in April of 2006. Prior to his promotion, he served as a property claims specialist for the Property/Casualty Claims Department.

Carlson and his wife, Melanie, live in Lucan with their children: Will, Avery and Sara.

Banks stepping down to pursue education

Officials with Big Stone Therapies announced recently that BST Marshall L.L.C. Clinic Manager and co-owner Jason Banks, PT, OCS, will leave his post as clinic manager and partner with the company to pursue a Master Clinician Fellowship with the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy.

"Although I am proud of the local collaborations, new services, and skilled staff we have brought to Marshall, my heart truly belongs to patient care and professional development," Banks said. "Therefore, I am applying to a number of universities to attend a year-long fellowship beginning in August of 2012."

In the interim, Banks will assist in coordinating the transition of leadership and spend time at home with his family.

Banks has been with Big Stone Therapies for eight years.

Markell top sales representative for Catholic United Financial north region

Dan Markell, the area sales representative for Catholic United Financial from Marshall, was the top sales representative in Mike Bredeck's North Region for 2011. In addition to being No. 1 in sales, he also was No. 1 in new members recruited.

Markell has been in the life insurance and annuity sales since 2009 and serves parishes in five counties in southwestern Minnesota including the cities of Marshall, Minneota, Wilno, Ivanhoe, Green Valley, Lucan, Pipestone, Tyler, Lake Benton, Wanda, Seaforth, Vesta and Ghent.

Wright honored with Top Women in Finance Award

Kristina (McCourtney) Wright, a Southwest Minnesota State University alumna, has been named one of the 2011 Top Women in Finance by Finance & Commerce, Inc., a Twin Cities-based financial newspaper.

The award honors outstanding efforts of women who are making notable contributions to their professions,their communities and society at large throughout Minnesota.

Wright, a former Marshall Independent employee, is vice president of Association Services at the Minnesota Credit Union Network, where she oversees the dues-supported operations and manages staff.

She currently leads a state-level committee that maintains an international partnership with a credit union trade association in Paraguay.

Working in conjunction with the World Council of Credit Unions, she has organized exchange programs to educate and train professional staff, regulators and public officials there.

Evers honored on retirement from North Star

Barb Evers of Echo recently retired from North Star Mutual Insurance of Cottonwood. She held the position of underwriting technician for the Commercial Underwriting Department.

She was honored on Jan. 5 at the home office in Cottonwood after completing more than 21 years of service.
