Fogarty to create last of downtown murals

January 20, 2012

MARSHALL - The third and final mural planned for downtown Marshall will bring in some talent with local connections, members of the Marshall Area Fine Arts Council announced Thursday night. Internationally-known sports artist and Southwest Minnesota State University alumnus Terry Fogarty will be the artist creating the mural.

"I feel honored to be asked to do it," Fogarty said of the mural. Marshall is a community with a special place in his heart, he said.

Fogarty displayed an initial design sketch of the mural, which he said conveyed the spirit of what the finished work would look like.

The specifics of the design haven't been determined yet, but the mural will show local children participating in a variety of sports. Becky Wyffels of the Marshall Mural committee said chances for kids to become models for the mural will be raffled off in the future.

The completed mural will be on the east wall of the Varsity Pub building.

The location would make the mural visible to traffic heading west on Main Street, said Wyffels.
