MARSHALL - For the last two meets, the Marshall gymnastics team has made the best of a bad situation.

With head coach Lindsay Wolff missing time due to back surgery, the Tigers have had two competitions - in Pipestone on Friday and at home Monday against New Ulm. Since that time, assistant coach Shyranda Hornick has helped guide the team.

"It's been really great, it's nice to step up to help the team," Hornick said. "The girls sure do miss Lindsay, though. She's been a good coach for them."

Hornick said that Wolff is hoping to return to the team Thursday when it travels to Luverne. And when she gets back, she'll return to a team that's getting into a rhythm.

Hosting the Eagles on Monday in their final home meet of the year, the Tigers put up one of their highest scores of the season with 108.500 points. New Ulm took first place with 134.500.

"In Pipestone last week, we scored five points higher than our previous season high, and with this meet, we're still progressing," Hornick said.

The Eagles' Cassie Forst won the all-around with a score of 34.25, while teammates Emily Gulden (33.925) and Molly Klimek (33.4) finished in second and third, respectively.

Led by Stephanie St. Aubin's all-around score of 30.325, Marshall continues on its path towards improvement. Meg Ellis scored an all-around score of 26.2, while Nicole Deragisch had a 25.075.

St. Aubin had the team's top score in the floor exercise (7.8) and balance beam (8.30), while Natalie Rademacher scored a 7.0 on the uneven bars, and Ellis marked an 8.0 on the vault.

With the season winding down, Hornick said the girls are trying more difficult routines to boost their scores at the end of the season.

"They're gradually improving," Hornick said. "They're twisting more on their vaults and doing different dismounts on the beam. They're putting what we've worked on in practice together.

"It's such a good feeling to see them progress, and I'm very happy they're finally getting it put together."
