Jumping out to a 17-7 lead, the Southwest Minnesota wrestling team fought off a late charge by No. 18-ranked (Division III) Concordia-Moorhead to win 17-16 Friday at the PE Gym.
With the victory, the Mustangs move to 9-5, their highest win total since 2002-03.
Jacob Begin won his 11th straight match with a 15-2 major decison over Josten Coleman at 165 pounds. Also winning for SMSU was Travis Borchert (125 pounds), Justin Reinsma (133), Ethan Hildebrandt (141) and Casey Field (157).
SMSU is back in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action next Friday, traveling to Minnesota State-Moorhead.
