Yellow Medicine East dancers sweep way to state

February 12, 2012
Marshall Independent

MARSHALL - The Yellow Medicine East dance team added to its resume Saturday by taking first place in both jazz and high kick at the Section 3A Dance Tournament in Montevideo.

YME has gone to state in both categories every year since the Minnesota State High School League sanctioned dance in 2000.

"Both teams danced really well," YME coach Chris Nerdahl said. "They've been drilling and they did what they needed to do. Everything really came together."

Lac qui Parle Valley finished second in both jazz and high kick to qualify for state in both events as well.

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton took fourth place in high kick and fifth in jazz.

"We're a little disappointed because the scores were so close," TMB coach Eve Schmidt said. "We were right behind the third place team for high kick. But we still had a good season."

The State Dance Team competition will take place Friday and Saturday at Target Center in Minneapolis.
