It was a rough start to the season for the Southwest Minnesota State women's tennis team, as the Mustangs were swept in all three of their matches over the weekend.
On Saturday in St. Paul, the Mustangs dropped a 9-0 match to St. Thomas and followed with a 9-0 loss to St. Catherine.
The Mustangs stayed in St. Paul for a match against Macalester College, again losing 9-0. No. 1 SMSU singles player Angie Wiegmann was the closest to winning a set for the Mustangs, losing to Katelyn Glenna 6-3, 7-6 (7-2).
SMSU had to take forfeits at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles in all three matches over the weekend.
The Mustangs begin Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference competition next Saturday in Bismarck, N.D. SMSU will play two matches on the day, first facing Augustana at 1 p.m. and then competing in a non-conference match at 4 p.m. against Montana State-Billings.
