Competing in the Section 3A championship Saturday in Worthington, the Marshall gymnastics team finished in ninth place with a team score of 106.425.

Taking home the section title was Jackson County Central, which had a team score of 140.825, edging Worthington (134.7) and Martin County Area (134.3).

"We started out on the vault, added some new twists and did really well and nearly got a season high" said Tigers head coach Lindsay Wolff. "We had some decent bar routines, too."

Leading Marshall on the vault was Meg Ellis, who had a score of 8.275. Stephanie St. Aubin followed with an 8.175. On the bars, Natalie Rademacher finished with a team-high 6.55.

On the balance beam, things started getting a little shaky for Marshall, with St. Aubin leading the bunch with a 7.05. But Wolff said the Tigers recovered in the floor exercise, with St. Aubin (7.975) leading the way.

"We were worried how the floor was going to go after we struggled on the beam," Wolff said, "but the girls really went out and did really well on the floor. It was their second-highest floor score of the season."

St. Aubin, the team's lone high schooler, was the top Tiger performer in the all-around with a score of 29.6. Ellis finished with a score of 25.475, and Nicole Deragisch had a 23.9.

"Steph stepped up being the only upperclassman," Wolff said. "With her guidance and effort, the team should have a couple good years.

In her first year as head coach, Wolff led a team that was filled with seventh- and eighth-graders. While the team was hoping to surpass St. James (112.625) in the team standings, Wolff was pleased with how the team progressed throughout the 2011-12 season.

"We're really proud with how we ended the season. We got a total of around 106, and that's really good compared to our first meet, where we scored a 92.

"If they stick with it and keep the passion they have for it, in a couple years, Marshall's team may be pretty decent."
