The Southwest Minnesota State women's tennis team remains in search of its first win after suffering three losses in Bismarck, N.D. over the weekend.
The Mustangs began competition Saturday morning with a 9-0 loss against Augustana in the first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match of the season. Augustana players won every set and only lost eight games total.
SMSU competed with Montana State-Billings in a dual match on Saturday afternoon, losing 7-2. The Mustangs' Katie Kienitz picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Emily Paffhausen in the No. 2 singles match, and SMSU's Nguyen Yome defeated Devin Lackner 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) at No. 6 singles.
The Mustangs wrapped up the weekend on Sunday against the University of Mary, with the Marauders picking up a 6-3 NSIC win.
SMSU got victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Angie Wiegmann earned a hard-fought 7-6 (3-0), 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) win over Brianna Thomas at No. 1 singles, and Kienitz got a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Megan Bosch. The two combined for an 8-5 win over Thomas and Julia Amundson in the No. 1 doubles match.
The Mustangs (0-6 overall, 0-2 NSIC) continue action March 17 with a non-conference match against Concordia-Moorhead in St. Cloud.
