Area Boys Basketball

TMB 68, Windom 48

The Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys' basketball team moved back to .500 after defeating Windom 68-48 on Tuesday in Windom.

Now 11-11, the Panthers got a game-high 24 points from Parker Lanoue, who hit three three-pointers in the victory. Taylor Hoffbeck added 12 points as TMB preps for a Camden Conference game with Minneota on Thursday in Tracy.

The Eagles (14-8) were led by Collin Lovell, who had 17 points in the loss.

Leading 36-23 at halftime, Dawson-Boyd held Lac qui Parle Valley to five second-half points, leading the way to a 73-28 non-conference win in Dawson.

Winners of 13 straight, the Blackjacks got 12 points from Nathaniel Huot and Joey Lee. Zach Stelter and Michael Lee each dropped 10 in the victory.

On Friday, Dawson-Boyd travels to Russell-Tyler-Ruthton to play in the Camden Conference championship game. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Ortonville's Trent Kuechenmeister hit seven three-pointers as the Trojans got hot from outside, snatching a 74-39 non-conference win against Minneota Tuesday in Ortonville.

Austin Swanson added 17 points for Ortonville in the win, while Jacob Meyer popped in 12.

For the Vikings, Grant Hennen led the way offensively with 20 points. Austin Buysse finished with eight points. No other Minneota player scored more than five points.

At 5-18 overall, the Vikings travel to Tracy-Milroy-Balaton for a Camden Conference game on Thursday.

MCC 60, Fulda 52 (OT)

Murray County Central rallied to defeat rival Fulda in a Red Rock Conference high school boys' basketball game Tuesday night, claiming a 60-52 victory in overtime in Slayton.

Sam Nysetvold (14 points) collected a steal and scored a basket with 24 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game at 52 and force overtime. MCC then outscored Fulda 8-0 in the extra period.

Nate Wieneke led MCC with 22 points, while Chris Halbur netted 11 points.

Aaron Tiesler and Todd Peterson scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, to lead Fulda (12-3 Red Rock, 18-6 overall).

MCC (10-5, 14-7) hosts Southwest Christian Friday night.

With four players scoring in double digits, Mountain Lake/Butterfield-Odin pulled away for a 73-47 Red Rock Conference win over Red Rock Central Tuesday in Lamberton.

Carter Kirk led the way with 17 points, while Beau Herrig (16), Cody Penner (15) and Kaleb Grev (10) also finished in double figures for the Wolverines (11-4 Red Rock, 18-5 overall).

For the Falcons (7-8, 9-13), Henry Rogotzke nearly had a double-double with 18 points and eight boards. Jeff DeCock added 16 points and seven assists in the loss.

RRC stays in conference action Friday, traveling to Fulda.

Down two to Mountain Lake Christian at halftime, the E.C.H.O. Charter boys basketball team went cold in the second half Tuesday and lost 67-46.

Kyle Lecy scored 17 points for the Rockets in the losing effort, and Shawn Peterson added 10 points.

The Rockets (3-12 overall) return to the court Monday to face Lincoln HI.

Area girls basketball

Lincoln HI 48, RTR 47

In its last chance of the season to pick up a Camden Conference win, the Lincoln HI girls basketball team came through. Senior forward Alicia Moen scored a game-high 17 points with 13 rebounds to lead the Rebels to a 48-47 victory over Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Tuesday night in Ivanhoe.

Emily Christensen hit three three-pointers for the Rebels to finish with nine points, and Malorie Midtaune had eight points and seven rebounds.

Destine Strand hit four three-pointers and led RTR with 14 points. Kaylie Nielsen added 11 points.

Neither team shot well from the foul line, as RTR was 11-for-21 and Lincoln HI was 11-for-20. The Rebels won despite turning the ball over 31 times.

Lincoln HI (3-18 overall, 1-13 Camden) opens the Section 3A playoffs Thursday at Ortonville. RTR (6-17, 3-11) has its first-round game Thursday against Westbrook-Walnut Grove in Westbrook.

Tracy-Milroy-Balaton snapped a four-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 53-32 non-conference road victory over Windom Area.

Cassie Hook hit four three-pointers and led TMB with 16 points. Jenna Stoneberg added 10 points and six rebounds.

The Eagels were led by Abby Hayenga, who had 12 points and six rebounds.

TMB ends the regular season with a 12-12 record. The Panthers will take on Yellow Medicine East in the Section 3AA tournament on Saturday in Granite Falls.

Before heading into Section 3A-North play, Westbrook-Walnut Grove ended the regular season in a high note, defeating Southwest Star Concept 55-43 in Red Rock Conference play Tuesday in Westbrook.

Leading the way for the Chargers was Paige Erickson, who had a game-high 22 points, and also had three assists, six steals and two blocks. Anne Woelber was 9 of 10 from the free-throw line, finishing with 14 points.

The Quasars got a team-high 11 points from Courtney Place.

At 9-7 in the Red Rock, 12-10 overall, WWG hosts Russell-Tyler-Ruthton in the first round on Thursday.

Dani Aus and Angie Scheffler both netted 14 points, sparking the Yellow Medicine East Sting to a 60-33 victory over the Benson Braves in a West Central Conference South high school girls' basketball game Tuesday night in Benson.

Courtney Hinz, Kylie Jans and Emily Baker (11 rebounds) each scored eight points for the well-balanced Sting, which led 28-13 at halftime and held a 39-20 rebounding advantage.

YME (8-4, 14-9) hosts Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in the opening round of the Section 3AA-North tournament Saturday at 7 p.m.

The E.C.H.O. Charter girls basketball team couldn't hold on to a three-point halftime lead and fell to Mountain Lake Christian 38-33 on Tuesday.

Patience Harris scored a game-high 19 points for the Rockets in the loss, and Morgan Schmidt added seven points and 12 boards.

E.C.H.O. Charter (3-11 overall) plays in the first round of the Section 3A tournament Thursday night against Lakeview in Cottonwood.

In the first round of South Dakota District 5A playoff basketball, the Elkton-Lake Benton girls' basketball team advanced out of the first round with a 74-54 victory over Madison in Elkton, S.D.

Leading the Lady Elks on offense was Megan Krogman, who finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Cassidy Gebhart added 18 points, and Steph Johnson finished with eight points, seven steals and five assists.

On Thursday, Elkton-Lake Benton travels to Tea, S.D. to play Flandreau.
