Elaine Ione was born Feb. 20, 1931, in Hendricks to George and Cora (Briffett) Sprink. She was baptized as an infant into the Lutheran faith and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Arco. She graduated from Ivanhoe High School in 1949. She worked at the Marshall Independent Newspaper for a couple of years.

On June 29, 1950, Elaine was united in marriage to Harold Mellenthin at the Bethany Lutheran Church. Harold served in the National Guard during the Korean War. Elaine and he lived in Alabama during Harold's service before moving back to Lynd Township where they farmed and raised their family. The love of Elaine's life was her family, and spending time with them. She was a great cook, gardener (especially flowers), avid Minnesota sports fan (Twins, Gophers, Marshall Tigers hockey), and enjoyed reading books (especially mysteries), music, doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She was artistic with great penmanship, and enjoyed photographing family and pets, especially her cat Lizzie who will miss her deeply. She was a member of the West Side Club for many years.

Survivors include her loving husband, Harold of Marshall; four children, Deborah Mellenthin of DuBois, Wyo., Jon (and Pat) Mellenthin of Lynd, Polle Hauge of Marshall and Scott (and Jane) Mellenthin of Marshall; six grandchildren, Jes (and Andrea) Mellenthin, Tara (and Shane) Plante, Cody (and Mandy) Mellenthin, Claire Hauge, Taylor Mellenthin and Brady Mellenthin; seven great grandchildren, Mason, Talan, Lincoln, Piper, Kaleb, Chase, and Tate; two siblings, LeRoy (and Alta) Sprink of Aurora and Merry Carol (and Ted) Midtaune of Livermore, Calif.; also many other relatives and friends.
