Wrestling in the NCAA Super Region Three tournament in St. Cloud on Sunday, Southwest Minnesota State sophomore 133-pound wrestler and Slayton native Justin Reinsma qualified for the NCAA Championships.
The NCAA Championships take place on March 9-10 in Pueblo, Colo.
Finishing in fourth place in his weight class, Reinsma defeated Indianapolis' Ethan Harris in a 9-3 decision in his first match of the day. Reinsma fell to eventual region champion Trevor Franklin (Upper Iowa) in a 9-1 decision before rebounding with a 8-7 win via decision against Terrel McKinney (aryville). In the third-place match, Reinsma lost in a 15-6 major decision to Andy Pokorny (St. Cloud State).
As a team, the Mustangs finished in 12th with 44 points.
Marshall native and Augustana wrestler Jason Jeremiason qualified for nationals for the second straight year, going 3-1 and finishing as the runner up at 133 pounds. Canby native and St. Cloud State wrestler Tad Merritt won his second straight regional title, taking first place at 165 pounds. Merritt helped the Huskies to first place in the region with 164 points.
