Dear Friends and Family of Elizabeth "Betty" Lockwood,
It is with great sadness we tell you that on Thursday, February 23, 2012, Elizabeth passed away at her home in Issaquah, Wash., with her loving family at her side. She was just one day past her 63rd birthday. She had courageously fought breast cancer for almost 20 years, despite three recurrences. She had magnificent strength and intelligence, was charming, humorous and an unconditionally loving woman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh Patterson and Jewel Patterson, her two brothers Hugh A. Patterson and Donald Patterson and one sister Patricia Hay.
Survivors include her faithful partner Kees Vandenbroek; her sons Matthew Lockwood (wife Jamie), Chester Lockwood (wife Nicole), Nicholas Lockwood and Joel Buysse (Carrie); and two grandsons, Mason and Maximus Lockwood. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members.
She will be remembered for her inner strength, loving spirit, determination and life affirming attitude. Communication was a priority for her and this connected her with many friends, colleagues and family. She achieved a Business Administration degree from Southwest State University in Marshall, Minnesota. Her life work included such varied things as medical technology, Developmental Officer at Southwest State University, Director-Owner of Care-A-Lot Children's Center in Marshall, Real Estate management and Realtor.
Elizabeth's passing leaves a huge void for all who knew her but hopefully over time the memories that we have will start to fill this void. She will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, March 10, at the Marshall Golf Course. Please bring a picture or perhaps a story to share.
Memorials are preferred to the Elizabeth "Betty" Lockwood Presidential Scholarship at Southwest Minnesota State University.
