BOLD eliminates Panthers in first round

Down seven to Tracy-Milroy-Balaton at halftime, the BOLD Warriors boys basketball team bounced back in the second half for a 53-49 win in an opening-round game of the Section 3AA-North tournament played Saturday at Bird Island.

Neither team shot well all game. TMB finished the game shooting 34.0 percent from the field and 50.0 percent (11 of 22) from the free-throw line. BOLD shot 20.5 percent from the field and 52.8 percent (19 of 36) from the foul line.

Kyle Athmann hit three three-pointers, scoring a game-high 18 points to lead the Warriors to victory. He went 7-for-8 from the free-throw line.

TMB's Parker Lanoue scored a team-high 12 points, but was just 4 of 22 from the field, including 1 of 10 from three-point range. Jacob Orren added 11 points for the Panthers, Taylor Hoffbeck had nine points, and Mason Van Essen pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Warriors, seeded fourth in the 3AA-North sub-section, will face No. 1 seed Redwood Valley at 6 p.m. Thursday in Granite Falls.

The Panthers end their season with an 11-14 record.

Knights explode in 2nd half to oust YME

Tied with Yellow Medicine East at halftime, the Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial boys basketball team outscored the Sting 50-25 in the second half of an 83-58 victory in the first round of a Section 3AA-North tournament game played Saturday in Lake Crystal.

LC-WM got 22 points from Michael Coates, 21 points from Bryson Yackel and 18 points, seven rebounds and five steals from Jarrett Imlay in the win.

Devon Dyrdahl scored 16 points and had six rebounds for YME, which ends the season with an 8-15 record. Elliot Carmany added 12 points, and Adam Savariego had nine points, five assists and five steals.

The third-seeded Knights (21-6) advance to play No. 2 seed Montevideo at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Granite Falls.
