YME falls in 3AA-North finals

The Yellow Medicine East girls' basketball team's season came to a close on Monday in Redwood Falls as the No. 3-seeded Sting fell 54-50 to No. 1 Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial in the Section 3AA-North title game.

The Knights (25-3 overall) got a 19-point, nine-rebounds, seven-block effort from Karina Schroeder, and Tara Roelofs (14) and Breanna Denn (10) both finished in double figures. Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial will take on Worthington, the top seed in the South sub-section, for the Section 3AA title at 5 p.m. Friday at the R/A Facility at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall. The Trojans defeated Fairmont 57-55 on Monday.

YME (15-10 overall) got a game-high 22 points from Courtney Hinz, who also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. Six of her rebounds came on the offensive end. Angie Scheffler added 19 points, and Emily Baker had four points, 11 rebounds and seven steals.
