LAKE?BENTON - Services for Virgil Nielsen, 72, of Lake Benton will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tyler Missionary Alliance Church in Tyler. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Tyler Area Funeral Home. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Burial is in Danebod Lutheran Cemetery. Stephens Funeral Service Tyler Area Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
He died Monday, March 5, 2012, at Avera Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

He was born Oct. 18, 1939, on the family farm in rural Tyler, to H. Chris and Cumal (Kuhlman) Nielsen. He entered the U.S. Navy on Sept. 26, 1957 serving as a 3rd class radarman. He won the expert rifleman medal in a competition across all military branches and was honorably discharged Oct. 6, 1960.
Survivors include his children, Darron of Irving, Texas, Greg of Champlain, Cindy Anderson of Victoria, and Angie Nielsen of Minneapolis; five grandchildren; and siblings, JoAnn Klein of Lake Benton and Curtis of Marion, S.D.
