Area wrestlers earn All-America honors at NCAA championships

Three collegiate wrestlers from the Marshall area capped their season with All-American honors at the NCAA Division II championships over the weekend.

Tad Merritt, a native of Canby, set the St. Cloud State record for most wins in a career (144) after defeating Nebraska-Kearney's Joey Wilson in a 3-0 decision in the third-place match at 165 pounds. His Huskies team took home second place as a team, finishing 12 points behind national champion Nebraska-Kearney.

Augustana's Jason Jeremiason, a native of Marshall, claimed fifth-place honors at 133 pounds after going 1-2 on Saturday. He was pinned in his opening two matches, but defeated Limestone's Michael Magaha 4-1 in the fifth-place match. The Vikings placed in a tie for 10th and had three wrestlers earn All-American honors.

Southwest Minnesota State got its first All-American wrestler since 2006, as Justin Reinsma finished in seventh place at 133 pounds after defeating Adili Edwards of Ashland (Ohio) 6-2 on Saturday. Reinsma, a Murray County Central graduate, finished 3-2 during the championships.
