Seven Southwest Minnesota State student-athletes were named to the 2011-12 Wrestling Coaches Association Division II All-Academic team, announced last week at the NCAA national championships in Pueblo, Colo.
The SMSU wrestling program had five members earn second team honors, including senior Martin Hagen, sophomores Ethan Hildebrandt, Micah Larson and Justin Reinsma, and redshirt freshman Cole Wilson. Senior Trent Molacek and sophomore Andrew Rodas were both named to the honorable mention team.
To be named to the D-II All-Academic team, a student-athlete must attain a grade point average of at least 3.0, be in his second year at his school, be a varsity member or key reserve and have a minimum of two letters of recommendation submitted on his behalf.
The Mustangs, as a team, finished ninth in the country with a GPA of 3.243.
Reinsma also earned All-America honors over the weekend with a seventh-place finish at the NCAA championships.
