MINNEAPOLIS- For the second straight year, the Minneota girls basketball team was knocked out in the first round of the Class A state playoffs, falling 67-63 to Ada-Borup on Thursday at Williams Arena at the University of Minnesota.
The Vikings end the 2011-12 season with a 29-2 record.
The Cougars' Megan Kolness was perfect on the day, shooting 7 of 7 from the field, including four three-pointers, and was 7-for-7 at the line for a team-high 25 points. Taylor Kujava (16 points) and Chelsea Nelson (14) finished in double figures as Ada-Borup (27-2) advances to the Class A semifinals. The Cougars will face Mountain Iron-Buhl, which defeated Sleepy Eye 50-31 on Thursday.
The Cougars missed only 11 shots on the day, shooting 62.1 percent from the floor, compared to 35.4 percent for the Vikings.
Minneota was led by freshman post Taylor Reiss, who had 27 points and 17 rebounds, including 12 offensive boards. Emily Steinessen added 10 points.
In their last game for the Vikings, Kelsey Hennen and Katelyn Kack scored 12 and eight points, respectively.
