Playing Northern State at the Metrodome in Minneapolis, the Southwest Minnesota State baseball team went 1-1, with the Wolves winning 7-3 in Game 1, while the Mustangs rebounded for a 6-1 Game 2 victory on Friday.
In Game 2, pitcher Nate Dickhausen held Northern State to two hits in six innings, striking out three in the SMSU victory. He threw 81 pitches with 52 strikes. On offense, Adam Thygesen went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and three RBIs. Tyler Flattum, Jon Ellis, Doug Mead and Ben Korger each had two hits apiece, with Korger crossing the plate twice for the Mustangs (8-5 overall).
In Game 1, SMSU had a slim 3-2 lead before the Wolves (5-7 overall) put together a two-out rally to score two runs in the top of the sixth inning. In the seventh, Northern State added three runs to close the game out.
Jeremy Schmidt gave SMSU a solid five innings, allowing two runs and six hits while striking out a career-high six in the no-decision.
Thygesen, Kyle Young and Korger each had a pair of hits in the loss.
The Mustangs will return to the Metrodome on Tuesday, taking on Augustana in a non-conference doubleheader.
