Florence Van Keulen

age 92 of Marshall

MARSHALL - Mass of Christian Burial for Florence Van Keulen, 92, of Marshall, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today with a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. prayer service at Rehkamp-Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall and will continue Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at St. Eloi Catholic Cemetery in Ghent.

Florence was born Sept. 1, 1919, to August and Irene (Dobbelaere) Buysse. She attended St. Eloi Catholic School until her sophomore year when she became the housekeeper for her father and brothers for nine years. On Nov. 13, 1943, she was united in marriage to Jules Van Keulen at St. Eloi Catholic Church in Ghent. They lived on the Van Keulen family farm for 36 years where they spent the happiest years of their lives. In 1979 they moved to Marshall. Her husband, Jules, passed away in 1985.

While living on the farm in Ghent, she was a member of St. Anne's Altar Society where she later served as president. She was a dedicated member of Holy Redeemer Church, a member of Marshall Council of Catholic Women, a dedicated Eucharistic minister, receptionist of Bishops Medal of Service, a volunteer at Avera Morningside Heights Care Center for 30 years and a lifetime membership of the Marshall Hospital Auxiliary.

Florence waited until all three of her children were by her side to hold her hand before she reached out to join hands with Jules in Heaven on Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at the Avera Morningside Heights Care Center in Marshall.

She is survived by her three children; Eunice (and Phil) Coudron of Powhatan, Va., Wally (and Kim) Van Keulen of Marshall, Linda (and Joe) Bottelberghe of Maple Grove; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and brother Louis Buysse.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jules and three brothers; Harry, George and Wilfred.
