HANLEY FALLS - Services for Vernon R. Engel, 96, of Hanley Falls will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wood Lake. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Sunset Funeral Home in Echo, with a prayer service at 6:45 p.m., with visitation continuing one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in the St. John's Lutheran Church cemetery. The Sunset Funeral and Cremation Association of Echo and Wabasso is in charge of arrangements.
He died Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at the Granite Falls Hospital in Granite Falls.
He was born Dec. 20, 1915, to Carl and Alvina (Lorenz) Engel on the family farm in rural Hanley Falls, Yellow Medicine County.
Survivors include his daughters, Carol Rikke of Echo, Nancy Busiahn of Cannon Falls and Connie Cole of Wake Forest, N.C.; son, Gary Engel of Lake Wylie, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
