Hansen new Murray County employee

Amber Hansen recently started as the secretary in the Assessor's Office at the Murray County Courthouse, filling a position that was recently vacated.

Hansen is originally from White, S.D., and moved to Slayton last summer with her new husband, Cody.

She graduated from SDSU with a degree in consumer affairs with an emphasis on financial management.

She will work with Jean Nelson and county assessor Marcy Barritt.

CNPs join Avera Medical Group Marshall

The Avera Medical Group in Marshall announces the addition of certified nurse practitioners in family medicine, Theresa Bly and Melissa Scotting. Both are experienced in general family care issues including women's care, children's development, minor injuries and chronic health conditions.

Theresa Bly is a graduate of University of Minnesota. She is from the Canby/Madison area and practiced in Madison prior to coming to Marshall.

"It's exciting to be in the area and take part in caring for families," she said. "I really enjoy getting to know my patients and being there for each of them whether it's a routine visit or something needing more immediate attention."

Melissa Scotting is a graduate of the nurse practitioner program at SDSU in Brookings, S.D., and comes to Marshall from Pipestone. She is looking forward to continuing her passion for family care.

"Family medicine allows me to treat the whole family and get to know my patients," she said. "Avera Marshall is a positive place where compassion and care for patients comes first."

CNPs provide care for infants, adolescents and adults with an emphasis on health and well-being. They focus on routine preventive care as well as management of common illnesses or chronic conditions, while considering quality of life for each individual and family unit.

Avera Marshall announces Spirit of Excellence Award Winner

Jan Healy, RN, Emergency Department, has been chosen to receive the "Spirit of Excellence" Award for March 2012 from Avera Marshall. Each month the award is given to an employee who demonstrates the medical center's values of compassion, hospitality and stewardship. Healy has worked at Avera Marshall since April 1976.

Sook recognized for long time ASFMRA membership

Randall J. Sook, an AFM with Northwestern Farm Management Co. in Marshall, was recently recognized by the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers for 25 years of membership within the organization. Sook is an agricultural professional who provides services for clients which may include farm and ranch management, rural appraisal and/or agricultural consulting.

Ryan Estis to present at business seminar

Ryan Estis, one of the Top 100 Keynote Speakers in America, will present at the upcoming business seminar, "Management 2012 - Perfect Fit Leadership; People, Passion & Performance." The seminar will be Friday, April 27, at Prairie's Edge Casino Resort in Granite Falls. Seminar registration begins at 8:30 a.m., presentation scheduled from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Hospice program set

Hospice Foundation of America's 19th annual "Living With Grief" program, "End-of-Life Ethics," available via DVD only, will be from 9 a.m.-noon or 5:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the Marshall Area YMCA multi-purpose room, 200 S. A St. in Marshall. A 30-minute local discussion will also take place (required for CEs). The program is offered locally free of charge by Prairie Home Hospice. Thrivent Financial named one of 'The World's Most Ethical Companies'

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has been selected as one of the "World's Most Ethical Companies" for 2012 by the Ethisphere Institute. Thrivent Financial was named to the prestigious list as a result of its leadership in promoting ethical business standards as well as for introducing innovative ideas to benefit the public.

The Ethisphere Institute is an international think-tank dedicated to the creation, advancement and sharing of best practices in business ethics, corporate social responsibility, anti-corruption and sustainability.

It announced its sixth annual selection of the World's Most Ethical Companies at an honoree dinner on March 15 attended by representatives of Thrivent Financial.

Thrivent Financial is represented in the Lincoln/Lyon County area by Ridgestone Team, which includes Joshua Johnson and Greg Nolting.
