SLAYTON - Services Avis LaVonne Voges Heyen, 93, of Slayton are at 11 a.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church Slayton. Burial is at the Slayton City Cemetery Slayton. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Saturday.
Avis passed away on Friday, March 23, 2012, at the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda.

Avis Heyen, the daughter of Irvin H. and Emma (House) Cochran, was born April 25, 1918, in Mason Township, Murray County. She grew up on farms in Murray County and attended Lake Beauty Country School. Avis was united in marriage to Charles Voges on Feb. 18, 1937. After their marriage they lived in Slayton. She remained in Slayton after Charles passed away. Avis married Ellsworth Heyen on Nov. 15, 1958, at the American Lutheran Church in Worthington. They made their home on a farm north of Hadley. In 1978 they moved to Slayton. Avis worked in housekeeping for Human Services and was the housekeeping supervisor at the Slayton Manor Care Center. They entered the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda in the fall of 2009, where Ellsworth passed away on Jan. 13, 2012. She was a member of the Slayton United Methodist Church where she had been a member of the United Methodist Women.
Survivors include her five children, Bill Voges and his wife Judy of Bridgewater, S.D., Marilyn DiGiulio of Sioux Falls, S.D., Jim Voges and his wife Janet of Slayton, Nancy Heyen and Don Cramer of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Julie Vincent and her husband Steve of Alexandria; daughter-in-law, Esther Voges of Blue Earth; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Donald Cochran of Slayton; sister, Doris Schreier of Slayton; sister-in-law, Hermina Leysen of Slayton and brother-in-law, Rudy Heyen of Rushmore.
