MINNEOTA - Services for Lyall Gislason, 71, of Minneota, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minneota. Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m.-1:30 p.m. at the church. Military honors provided by American Legion Post 199 of Minneota.
He died Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the Prairie Home Hospice House in Marshall.

Lyall Gislason
Lyall Duane Gislason was born June 12, 1940, in Clarkfield to George and Grace (Christianson) Gislason-Hoy. He grew up in Minneota through the ninth grade and graduated from Biwabik High School. Lyall enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for 22 years in a variety of locations including Fort Snelling in Minneapolis and the U.S.S. Prairie. After his discharge, he returned to Minneota. On May 2, 1992, he was united in marriage to Jean Moorse at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minneota. Out of their love for each other came Natasha and Ashley. Lyall had a heart for service. He would help many people in need including driving senior citizens, shoveling driveways and other tasks. He was a member of the Minneota City Council, American Legion Club and Minneota Library Board. He enjoyed camping, reading, crossword puzzles, giving people a hard time and giving back to the community. Lyall was most passionate about golfing and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Jean, of Minneota, children Natasha of Minneota, Ashley of Minneota, Jill of Aurora, Colo., Michael of Sacramento, Calif., Ryan (and Andrea) of Sacramento, Calif., Paige (and Jason) Berg of Salt Lake City, Utah; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; step-mother Mary Cerda; siblings Vivian Secrist of St. Michael, Allen (and Jane) Gislason of Granite Falls, Neil (and Kari) Gislason of Renville, Billie (and Johnny) Ricks of Spring, Texas, Paula (and Kevin) Barker of Fort Worth, Texas, Amy Gislason of Tulsa, Okla., Donna (and Larry) Lewis of Granite Falls; and nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Gislason and Grace Gislason-Hoy and step-father Joe Hoy, step-son Brad Pruitt, niece Karla Gislason, siblings Neva DeLong, Robert Gislason and Julian Gislason, and brother-in-law Robert DeLong.
Memorials preferred to the Friends of the Minneota Public Library.
