Tom van der Hagen recognized for helping clients find solutions

Tom van der Hagen, CRPC, financial adviser, recently received an award from RiverSource Life Insurance Co. The award recognizes Ameriprise financial advisers who have helped clients use annuity solutions to help plan for a more confident retirement in 2011.

As a financial adviser, he works to help clients plan for their financial goals for a lifetime - through a personal long-term financial planning relationship. In addition to variable, fixed and income annuities, he is knowledgeable on a variety of topics and strategies including retirement, tax and estate planning, and asset management strategies.

Marshall Community Services offers financial classes

Marshall Community Services will offer several financial classes this month. For more information about these classes or to register, visit or call 507-537-6767.

Homebuying and Foreclosures will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Adult Community Center. If you are considering buying a foreclosure, you might have the following questions: What is a foreclosure? Can I get a steal on a foreclosure? What do I need to have ready to make an offer? Since I am buying the property "as is," can I have an inspection? Lisa Fraztke from Century 21 Southwest Realty will tell you what you need to know when buying a foreclosure.

Living WithinYour Means will be from 5:45-7:15 p.m. April 17, May 15 and June 19 (all Tuesdays) at the Marshall Lyon County Library. Each session will be packed with ideas and tips to help you become wiser, financially healthier and wealthier while living within your means. Attend all three of these no cost sessions and receive a 25 percent discount toward an MCS class/activity (some exceptions apply).

Wills and Probate will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, April 23, at the Adult Community Center. Gregg Solomon from the Diebold Law Firm, LLC will cover why you should have a will, what is probate, what isn't probate, estate taxation, power of attorney documents and health care directives.

Credit Scores - The Good, the Bad and the Ugly will be from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the Adult Community Center. This class will cover how credit scores affect everything; what goes into a good credit score and a bad credit score; strategies for credit repair and how to build a budget to achieve good credit scores. This class could have a significant impact on your financial health and well being. Rene Diebold from the Diebold Law Firm, LLC will be teaching this class.
