Area softball

D-B's Zaiser throws no-hitter

Striking out six and holding Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley to three walks, Dawson-Boyd sophomore Sadie Zaiser threw a no-hitter, and the Blackjacks' offense exploded for 22 hits in a 17-0 non-conference victory in five innings.

At the plate, Kaitlin Johnshoy went 4-for-5 with a triple and a three-run home run in the top of the second inning. Justine Flattum, Mari Lee and Kelsi Schuelke each finished with three hits, helping bump the Blackjacks to 4-1 overall.

On Saturday, Dawson-Boyd heads to a tournament hosted by Lac qui Parle Valley in Madison.

ACGC 13, YME 9

Four errors came back to bite Yellow Medicine East in a West Central Conference softball game Thursday against Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City. YME's errors led to six unearned runs in the Falcons' 13-9 victory over the Sting.

ACGC was led offensively by Erica Melbie, who was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Sydney Larson added a triple for one of the Falcons' 12 hits on the day.

YME's Courtney Hinz connected for a three-run homer in the second inning which gave the Sting a 4-2 lead before ACGC scored four runs in the third and five in the fourth. Jennessa Hoffman was 3-for-5 with three RBIs, and Angie Scheffler was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

YME's Allie Trudel pitched six innings for the Sting and took the loss. She struck out three batters, walked two and allowed seven earned runs.

The Sting drop to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in WCC action after the loss. YME hosts Lakeview today in non-conference action.

KMS 2, RTR 0

Russell-Tyler-Ruthton's Phil Madsen and Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Jonah Johnson each tossed a strong seven innings during Thursday's matchup between the two Camden Conference teams in Sunburg, but Johnson was just a bit sharper on the mound. Johnson gave up just one hit, allowed no walks and struck out eight batters in his team's 2-0 victory.

Madsen struck out seven, gave up three hits and surrendered one walk for the Knights in the losing effort. Only one of KMS's two runs was earned as RTR had two errors in the game.

RTR's lone hit came from Shay Wabeke.

The Knights drop to 1-2 with the loss and will be back on the field today with a game at Adrian.

TMB splits with MACCRAY

In Camden Conference play on Thursday, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton split its road doubleheader with MACCRAY in Raymond. The Wolverines pulled away with a 6-1 Game 1 victory before the Panthers tied up the twin bill with an 11-8 Game 2 victory.

In Game 1, Cody Boonstra led MACCRAY, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Riley Aeikens scored a pair of runs in the win. JC DeWitte drove in TMB's lone run in the first inning, scoring Jordan Lanoue on an RBI single.

In the nightcap, Lanoue paced the Panthers' offense with three RBIs and a pair of hits. Reed Salmon scored two runs and Taylor Hoffbeck got a run across the plate. Aeikens continued to lead the Wolverines, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

At 1-1 in the Camden, 3-2 overall, TMB hosts Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Monday.

YME boys finish 5th

In the first West Central Conference-South tournament of the spring, the Yellow Medicine East boys' golf team finished in fifth place with a total score of 176.

Winning the team meet was Benson, which shot a 165 to beat BOLD and Montevideo by a stroke each.

Jordan Zens led the Sting, carding a 41, while Spencer McCosh followed with a 43. Splitting medalist honors was Scott Rauenhorst of BOLD and Taylor Larson of Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City, who each finished with 39s.
